Off the court there’s not much for Kobe Bryant to celebrate since his divorce from his wife, but luckily for him it happened while he was still playing and able to earn back some of what he’s lost unlike another superstar shooting guard from the 90′s.
According to Forbes, Kobe is currently the NBA’s top earner at $53.2 million dollars. His salary for this season is $25.2 million making him the highest paid player in the NBA as he’ll likely remain for the rest of his career. He’s put in the years, the hours of hard work, and the results to warrant his NBA salary and his $28 million dollars worth of endorsements.
However, it’s LeBron James who is the top endorser in the NBA. He’s second in the total earning category with $49 million dollars with $33 million of that coming away the court. If not for his decision to take less money when he signed with the Miami Heat, the $16 million dollars he’s slated to earn this season would have been more, but then again if he can finally win in June those endorsement dollars will increase in all likelihood thus increasing his total earnings.
Due to the NBA lockout which cost the NBA and it’s players 16 games, their salaries will be decreased by 20%, but there’s no reason to feel sorry for these millionaires.
Kobe and LeBron are the highest earners and make $20 million more dollars than the next closest player and deservedly so.
Dwight Howard comes in at 3rd in total earning with $28.9 million ($17.9 mil in salary), Dwayne Wade comes in at 4th with $27.7 million ($15.7 mil in salary), and Carmelo Anthony rounds out the top 5 at $26.5 million ($18.5 mil in salary).
