Michael Crabtree had a phenomenal breakout year last season and went into the San Fransico 49ers off-season program looking to improve upon his previous success. Unfortunately, on Tuesday (May 21st) the Niners’ Super Bowl aspirations were dealt a severe blow when Crabtree suffered what may end up being a season-ending Achilles injury.
Crabtree chose to undergo surgery on Wednesday (May 22nd) to repair his Achilles tendon wasting no time in getting back on the field. Here’s what head coach Jim Harbaugh had to say about the status of his star receiver.
“Michael Crabtree underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon that he tore yesterday,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “Surgery was successful and we do not anticipate it will be season-ending for Michael.”-Source
There’s no question that Crabtree will play this upcoming 2013-2014 season, if you ask Harbaugh, but the real question is when? Harbaugh would not speculate on a time table for Crabtree’s return just yet. With Crabtree sidelined it’s going to be up to Colin Kaepernick and the gang to to step it up that much more.
